Turkey Hunting in Idaho

Since the introduction of the turkey to Idaho, it has become increasingly popular every single year.  Hunting opportunities are easily found in most every region of the state.  Calling is the only method that hunters use to hunt this species.  Scent is not as important with turkeys as their sense of smell is not very good.  However, it is important to have good camoflauge as their vision is comparable to that humans.  There are countless brands and types of calls to hunt turkey, but the most common for beginners are slate calls and push-button yelpers.  More advanced hunters use mouth calls, but they are somewhat difficult to master, so the beginner should stick to a slate call for easiest success.  When looking for the best places to hunt, visit fish and game's website to look at their outlook for turkey.  The following is a link to the turkey outlook: http://www2.state.id.us/fishgame/Hunt/ProgramsInfo/Turkey/outlook.htm
